Knowing your character is the key to playing your character. In other games you need to know the rules to play. In this one you have to know your character and the basic rules.
There are many things to know about your character, and the more you know the more fun the game can be. Knowing your characters personality helps in roleplaying your character when it comes to knowing what or how your character would react to things. Knowing what your character can do helps in playing your character when it comes to what can it do during combat. As combat is a big part of playing the game, it’s pretty important to know what you can do.
What should you know?
Special abilities:
Sneak Attack: When can you use it and how? What is the damage?
Bonus Attack: When do you get to use it and what is it?
Breath Weapon: How often can you use it and what is the damage?
Weapons:
What ones can you use and what damage does it do?
What is the range of your weapon?
What bonuses to attack do you have?
Spells:
What spell do you have available and how many can you cast a day?
What does the spell do?
How long does it take to cast and how long does it last?
Does it take an attack roll or does it automatically work?
These are just a few ideas of getting to know your character better and getting the game to flow a little easier and quicker.
