The blackness starts to fade to grey and then light starts to come with pain she has never felt before, she tries to open her eyes and starts to lift her head, only to feel the pain shoot from toe to head…..
Again she feels herself coming to consciousness, she tries to will herself to wake up. She must be alive since the pain is still there. She hears a voice, one she does not remember, “Do not move, it will be better if you try not to fight it”. Zanna tries to speak but no words come, the pain stops her and as she tries to lift her head she realizes despite the pain she can not move, she is being held down by a force she can not understand, at least not at this time. The voice says, “rest more and we will talk another time.” Zanna feels a hand touch her face and she fades to darkness again.
As she opens her eyes she can see the face of Lt. Shadellah and she tries to jump to her feet but again no matter how much she tries to move she can not move at all. Lt. Shadellah says, “ there really is no need to fight it, you would be better off accepting your sentence.” Zanna only replies with, “where are they.” She then realizes that there is no pain, she has tried to move and she spoke and neither caused any pain. She sees Lt. Shadellah reach out and touch her face again. “No” the blackness returns.
She opens her eyes and the room is empty. How long has she been in the blackness? She says “hello” and no reply. She tries to sit up and realizes she can move although her hands are bound by a chain. She sits and looks around the empty room. Other than the bed she lies on there is nothing but an old violin and door across the room, she sees she is not bound to the bed. She moves to the door and as she touches the handle an unfamiliar voice from the other side of the door simply says, “Lady Zanna, please do not touch the door”. She first tries to play it calmly asking to see Lt. Shadellah. When there is no reply she demands to see her, when there is no reply again she quickly loses her patience and starts to bang on the door and screaming to let her out. Again, the voice repeats, “Lady Zanna, please do not touch the door”. At that the familiar voice of Lt. Shadellah says, “return to the bed, we don’t want to hurt you, but if you give us no choice”.
Her days come and go, she is starting to figure it all out or so she thinks. She wakes from a fog in her room but this is not sleep. She can not remember leaving this room but yet her clothes and body are clean each and every time she comes out of the fog. Are days going by or is this just been one day? This room must be an anti-magical chamber because she can’t even get the smallest amount of magic to work, but how can Lt. Shadellah use magic here? What are they doing to her, why are they keeping her here? What became of the others? Are they here too?
All these thoughts run through her mind endlessly, is she losing her mind? Is that what they want? Will Zoriah come for us? Will she even know that we came here? How long will they keep us here? Is there a way out of this place? Where are my things? Why did Shiela go off on her own? Did Sheyla, turn on the Smoke and I? Maybe she was not really dead, was it all an act? I will have her skin…...
She lays on the bed. Visions of a little girl singing and dancing around the trees tops…..She fades to the darkness once again.
